Our last night together, I entered into it strangely. My walls were up, shielding myself from facing the reality of what I was. I was protecting my energy. The moment you wrapped your arms around me, I melted into you. Being yours felt as simple as breathing. I allowed myself to enjoy this one moment in time. Each touch was a soft ending. I filed away our conversation, your laugh—music to me. I love the way you make my mind work; you’re brilliant. You holding me, listening to you breathe while you slept, pulling me close to take me one last time… I knew it was just a need you were seeking, not me. You turned at the door, with a slight hesitation. I held my breath with hope. You stopped yourself, and so I kissed your cheek goodbye.
